If you have important data on several CDs or USB drives, you can use DiskCat to make the files easier to find. The application is capable of cataloging all the data in a given folder, even from removable drive. Instead of looking through each of your CDs for specific files, you can use a search function in your catalogs, to locate the data instantly.

The software can be used on any modern Windows platform and it can be installed in a few moments. Its hardware requirements are modest and it doesn't ask for any special tools or services. Also, the software is offered completely free of charge.

Selecting a folder and clicking a button is all you have to do. The application will start indexing that folder immediately. You can also target entire drives, which can be selected in a drop menu, on the same compact interface. The amount of time it takes to index a folder or drive depends on the amount of data it contains, but even with large chunks of data, the indexing process shouldn't take more than a minute.

Once your indexing processes are done, you can expand the interface, to reveal the created catalogs. Right clicking a catalog will bring up options for browsing that catalog, in Windows Explorer, opening the database's location, moving, renaming or deleting the catalog, as well as a few management options for the database itself.
